Middle School Memories

I have a lot of memories and one of them was on the first day of middle school. I was so nervous because we were mixing with kids from the other elementary school. I felt like a big kid on the first day because everything seemed bigger and it seemed like everyone was a lot older and mature because we got lockers and we had to change for gym. Also we had different kids in our class but I was really scared because of the teachers. I remember in elementary school when teachers would tell us that it would be a lot harder because the teachers were not going to treat us like little kids which is never really true until you get to high school. Anyway I ended up really liking my teachers though.

I also remember when I became best friends with Alexandra Powell in seventh grade.  Once this girl was talking about Alex in a bad way so I asked her to please stop her gossip because Alex wasn’t even in school that day to defend herself. Later that night Alex called me and asked me what happened in school that day. She asked me because the girl had texted her apologizing about what she was saying in school that day. I defended Alex and from that day on we became best friends. Unfortunately we didn’t become friends before. Alex moved in the beginning of eighth grade I remember that too. That was the worst; my best friend was leaving to Texas! I remember tearing up every time thinking about it.

I also remember my first challenge day ever. That I won’t ever forget. Every one opened up and there were so many tears. The challenge day people were also so sweet. Challenge day was also really fun.

I remember going to Dorney park in sixth grade, that was fun but I wouldn’t do that again. That’s why I didn’t go this year. Some things are only fun once. But I was in a group with my friends, Carli, Desi, Karina and Jackie. We went on lots of rides and we went to the water park.

I have a lot of middle school memories but those are just a few. I will soon have many more memories but this time I will be in high school. I cant wait.

Washington DC!

When we went to Washington dc I was in Tori’s group with her mom, Alicia, Julia and Karina. When we got to DC my group got dropped off at the holocaust museum. We went to a couple of exhibits like Daniels story exhibit it told the story of a boy who survived the holocaust. He had to move to the ghetto and a concentration camp, and then he lost his mother. I felt bad for the innocent people that went through that.

Then we left the museum and walked to the memorials. It was really hot outside and we had to walk a lot. We saw the Jefferson memorial the Roosevelt memorial, the Lincoln memorial and the World War 2 memorial.

Then the eighth grade had to meet up at the World War 2 memorial so that we could go to union station to eat. Union station was so fun it was like a mini mall and train station put together. I had lunch at sbarro and had a Stromboli and pasta and a Pepsi. Then we walked all around union station until we had to leave. I was sad that we had to leave because I had a lot of fun.

Someone Like You

Someone like you

By: Sarah Dessen

Someone like you is a story about true friendship and what it takes to prove that you are an amazing friend

In this story Halley is off to camp for the last two weeks before she starts her junior year in high school but everything changes when she gets a phone call late one night at camp. It was Scarlett, her best friend Scarlett was always the one everyone knew and Halley was just that girl that hangs out with Scarlett. Scarlett calls Hayley asking if she could come home early because she needed her because Michael Sherwood died in a motorcycle accident. Michael Sherwood was the only guy Scarlett ever really loved, she needed Hayley, and so Hayley goes home the next day.

On the day of the Michael’s funeral Haley met Macon Faulkner, Michael’s best friend. Macon was the trouble maker that soon stole Haley’s heart. Haley was a goodie goody until she started hanging out with people like Gina and Elizabeth. She then became a whole other person she started to sneak out with Macon and disobey her parents and she stopped talking to her mom the way she used to.

Haley soon finds out that Scarlett is carrying Michael’s baby once when they were at work at millions market and Halley showed her the pregnancy test. Haley was dumbfounded but she knew she was going to be all right and Halley was going to be there for her best friend. Later everyone in school finds out Scarlett is pregnant and no one knew Scarlett and Michael ever even had feelings for each other. While all of this was going on Halley was being pressured to do things that Halley wasn’t sure she wanted to do. Halley finally decides that it’s over between her and Macon when he got mad enough to actually crash the car they were riding, out of anger.

The night of prom Scarlett gave birth to a baby girl that she named Grace Halley Thomas. In the end Halley was the best friend that anyone could ever ask for she was there for Scarlett no matter what went on.

I really enjoyed this book I highly recommend it because it should be made into a movie and it would be a chick flick.

The Journey

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
kept shouting
their bad advice –
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles.
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
was terrible.
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
which you slowly
recognized as your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do –
determined to save
the only life you could save.

I like this poem a lot I think it is very meaningful and it makes sense and I dont know why I like it so much but I do.

Success is Counted Sweetest

Success is counted sweetest
By those who ne’er succeed.
To comprehend a nectar
Requires sorest need.

Not one of all the purple host
Who took the flag to-day
Can tell the definition,
So clear, of victory!

As he, defeated, dying,
On whose forbidden ear
The distant strains of triumph
Burst agonized and clear!

By: Emily Dickinson

This poem is about war and how when you win its a victory and your success.

Sleeping in the Forest

I thought the earth remembered me,

she took me back so tenderly,

arranging her dark skirts, her pockets

full of lichens and seeds.

I slept as never before, a stone on the river bed,

nothing between me and the white fire of the stars

but my thoughts, and they floated light as moths

among the branches of the perfect trees.

All night I heard the small kingdoms

breathing around me, the insects,

and the birds who do their work in the darkness.

All night I rose and fell, as if in water,

grappling with a luminous doom. By morning

I had vanished at least a dozen times

into something better.

This poem is talking about mother nature. It also says that you wake up a new person everyday.

Where the Sidewalk Ends

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
There is a place where the sidewalk ends
And before the street begins,
And there the grass grows soft and white,
And there the sun burns crimson bright,
And there the moon-bird rests from his flight
To cool in the peppermint wind.

Let us leave this place where the smoke blows black
And the dark street winds and bends.
Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we’ll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we’ll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Touched by an Angel

By: Maya Angelou

We, unaccustomed to courage
exiles from delight
live coiled in shells of loneliness
until love leaves its high holy temple
and comes into our sight
to liberate us into life.

Love arrives
and in its train come ecstasies
old memories of pleasure
ancient histories of pain.
Yet if we are bold,
love strikes away the chains of fear
from our souls.

We are weaned from our timidity
In the flush of love’s light
we dare be brave
And suddenly we see
that love costs all we are
and will ever be.
Yet it is only love
which sets us free.

I think this poem is beutiful but im not sure how she is touched by the angel. im not sure but i like this poem.

Women Work

Women Work by: Maya Angelou

I’ve got the children to tend
The clothes to mend
The floor to mop
The food to shop
Then the chicken to fry
The baby to dry
I got company to feed
The garden to weed
I’ve got shirts to press
The tots to dress
The can to be cut
I gotta clean up this hut
Then see about the sick
And the cotton to pick.

Shine on me, sunshine
Rain on me, rain
Fall softly, dewdrops
And cool my brow again.

Storm, blow me from here
With your fiercest wind
Let me float across the sky
‘Til I can rest again.

Fall gently, snowflakes
Cover me with white
Cold icy kisses and
Let me rest tonight.

Sun, rain, curving sky
Mountain, oceans, leaf and stone
Star shine, moon glow
You’re all that I can call my own.

I like this poem maya angelou sounds like a mom.
